Before the Light Disappears

$560.00

Twenty years ago, as a fledgling painter, I felt like I wanted to try and paint nearly every beautiful scene I observed. During a trip to Topsail Island, a favorite beach destination, I sat enjoying drinks with a friend in a seaside restaurant. Glimpsing the changing scene outside the window, I was mesmerized by the stunning sunset reflected in the water. The vibrant orange, yellow, and red hues were simply breathtaking. Especially in contrast with those dark hues of gorgeous blue.

I stood and moved to another part of the restaurant to get an uninterrupted photograph. The scene was changing rapidly, and I knew I had to act quickly. I took my photo, determined that I would one day revisit the scene.

While it took two decades, I’m thrilled to have finally brought this memory to life in oil. The rich colors, the movement of the water, and the warm glow of the setting sun still delight me today and I am transported once again to that wonderful evening.
