Bunch of Poppies - Sold

$0.00

There have been key moments in the last 20 years that remain strong in my memory, of times when I encountered poppies. This painting was created from my memory of poppies. Although I mostly paint from photographs, this was not the case here. Instead, I challenged myself to develop the composition and layout to fill this particular canvas and hopefully capture the sense I always experience when I look upon a single poppy or a field of them. (You might notice that I really love these flowers.) It was fun to move the colors and textures around as needed. Reds, greens, grays, yellows, browns, blacks… everything in between. So much nuance goes into creating a sense that something represents a living thing. I felt satisfied that I achieved my goal this time. I’ve been enjoying painting poppies so much I wrote a blog post about it and you can check it out, here.

  • Size (h & d): 4 × 12 in

  • Medium: Oil on cradle board
