As those more familiar with my work know, I most often paint from photographs. Usually my own, sometimes family or friends’. But at times, I have an idea for a scene for which there is no literal source material. It’s fun to use my creativity in this way and create the painting from my own memories or ideas. This is such a painting. Over the course of 20 years, I happily recall key “encounters” with poppies in nature (including in my friends’ gardens), that inform my thoughts of how poppies should be presented.
