This oil painting captures the dynamic energy and the sounds of the coast. And because The Marshall Muse Gallery recently hosted a show called “The Soundtrack: The Art of Sound”, I entered this painting and it was on exhibit in the main gallery throughout February of 2026.
In the painting, two brown pelicans are depicted in mid-flight over a turbulent ocean. The upper pelican is poised for a dive, its large bill pointed towards the foamy green and white waves below. The second pelican banks sharply, its wings spread wide against the backdrop of crashing turquoise water and a partly cloudy blue sky. I tried to use loose, impressionistic brushstrokes to convey the movement of the birds and the raw power of the sea.
