This painting is part of my nine-piece "While Listening to Jazz" series — each piece painted while jazz played in the studio, and each title borrowed from a song that filled the room as I worked. The series shares a palette and a feeling: turquoise skies mixed from Phthalo Turquoise, Cerulean Blue, and a touch of Cadmium Orange, and vivid greens built from Ultramarine Blue, Hansa Yellow Medium, Yellow Ocher, and White. All nine pieces were born from imagination, rooted in memories of my family's farm.
"Slow Reveal" lives a little quieter than some of its siblings. The sky pulls back and lets the land do the talking — rolling green fields unfolding at their own unhurried pace, exactly the way a memory surfaces. The title fits perfectly.
