Checking In After a Summer Filled with Art Activities

It’s been a while since I took the time to write here, and I have things to catch you up on! What have I’ve been doing for the past nine months? So much… especially on the art front. I’ve been in two different art shows with an exciting group of artists called the 50+ Artist’s Community... meaning everyone in the group is over 50 years old.

I was also a participant in a show at Central Gallery in Revolution Mill along with all my fellow artists also maintaining studios at Revolution Mill.

Yet the most exciting thing I have been involved with was being asked by Hirsch Wellness to exhibit my work at Cone Cancer Center.  Eight of my paintings with subjects related to summertime activities - landscapes, waterscapes and the like - filled the hall at the entrance to Alight Foundation, which is for breast cancer patients and survivors. It was my hope that viewing these eight pieces of art produced a few moments of respite to those experiencing breast cancer or remission.

I have also traveled to a “Paint Camp” at Kanuga Retreat Center in western North Carolina. This weekend allowed me to study in person with Mary Gilkerson (the instructor) on painting outdoors and also tour art galleries in the town of Flat Rock.

Recently I was able to go see two of my favorite artists, Marc Hanson and Dottie Leatherwood, doing demos as well as meeting them in person!! What an exciting time for me!! Actually, I learned a lot from just watching them produce a painting in a couple of hours! It was amazing.

I guess that’s been mostly what’s happening in my world... what have you been doing? I really would love to hear from you. Tell me what’s happening in your world.
